PhD Workshop

The International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS), the School of Science and Technology (FCT) and the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research (CENSE) at the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL) would like to welcome early career researchers, including doctoral and master students, to present their work in an all-day PhD Workshop to be held at 12th July 2016 at NOVA IMS – Information Management School, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Campus de Campolide, Lisboa.

Workshop leaders: Prof. Rodrigo Lozano (coordinator), Editor in Chief of Journal of Cleaner Production, Elsevier and University of Utrecht, Netherland; Prof. Volker Mauerhofer, University of Vienna, Austria, and Dr. Kim Ceulemans, University of Victoria, Canada.

The aim of the workshop is to support early career researchers working on sustainable development topics by providing them with an arena for discussion of their on-going research projects with peers and senior academics. Any early career researcher attending the 22nd ISDRS Conference is eligible to register in this workshop.

Participants will:

  • have the opportunity to present their research, whether at proposal, data collection, or writing up stage;
  • receive comments from peers and senior researchers in a constructive and supportive environment;
  • be informed of appropriate publication or other academic opportunities;
  • have informal discussion over a light lunch;
  • have the opportunity to attend a scientific writing lecture with a journal editor

Submissions (NOW CLOSED) are welcome relating to any of the conference themes.


Submission with an application form should be sent by 20 February 2016 to Prof. Sandra Caeiro, email: scaeiro@uab.pt, with the subject “PhD Workshop ISDRS 2016”.

The application form should contain the following information (see template below):

  1. Title of the research work;
  2. Author name and affiliation;
  3. Conference track (choose one from the programme);
  4. The scope (MSc, PhD or other type of research) and goal of the research work (50-100 words);
  5. The main research question(s) (50-100 words);
  6. Main challenges faced by your research until now (50-150 words);
  7. The main expectations regarding input from the colleagues and senior researchers during the workshop (50-150 words).

To register for this workshop simply select it as an add-on when completing your conference registration. This workshop has an additional cost of 30€. The number of participants is limited to 20.
